“Now is the time. This is the hour. Ours is the magic. Ours is the power.”
If you’ve seen the Craft, you’ll know it’s not the best movie in terms of witch representation, but it’s not the worst either. The sentiment remains, ‘tis Time! September is here! I spend all summer trying not to let too much of my Halloween Freak show until it starts bubbling over just before September. Now that we’ve arrived at the cusp of Fall, there’s no holding back. The Season is Here.
Here in the Hollow, things are starting to wake up and creep from beneath the forest floor. This is the time I truly start to feel alive. There’s a lot brewing that I can’t wait to show you! If you’ve found this blog because you too are obsessed with the spooky times, then buckle up buttercup-
It Punkin time.
I won’t always be giving a preview for the month’s activities, but since this site is new, I’d like to provide you with some sense of what’s to come. Hopefully you’ll decide to stick around. There’s a little of everything going on for the next couple of months.
CRAFTS:
If you’re here for the crafts, my husband (Mr. Fox) and I like to make creepy props and décor. To start off September, I’ll be making a step-by-step guide to building your own creepy terrarium. This is a project I’ve been wanting to get to for a while and now I get to take you all along with me! Our home has been needing a good focal piece for the season. Next, we’ll be posting something I’m extremely excited about, Mr. Fox’s How to Make a Necronomicon! Last year for our wedding ceremony, he made one to house our vows and ceremony pieces. It was beautiful and I’m so happy he wants to share his ‘how to’ here as well! The final craft for September will be some mummified faeries to decorate the nooks and crannies of your home with. If any of this sparks your curiosity, expect October to be even more spooky in the crafting department.
RECIPES:
For those of you who are most interested in the edible bits of the season, I have quite a few treats lined up as well. We’ll be making lavender lemonade, a refreshing beverage my mom (Nonna Fox) introduced to me years ago. It holds the flavors of summer while visually conjuring Fall. It’s like a cute little witch’s brew and may hold some magical properties like one as well. The next recipe to come this month is one I’ve been daydreaming about for a few weeks now. Chocolate Salted Caramel cookies with pretzel witch sigils on them. They’re my Witch of the Woods Cookies. They’ll be vegan of course, and allergen-friendly (except gluten, although that could be solved with some easy substitutions). The final recipe of September will be a delicious, caramel apple pie. Last year, the Kit and I made one with my parents, and it was incredible.
AND MORE:
Aside from these crafts and recipes, you’ll find some witchy musings this month. I was raised in a pagan household and find the Wheel of the Year to be a fascinating way to practice mindfulness and appreciation for nature. If this doesn’t appeal to you, just skip the Mabon post. Not everyone who loves the witchy things in life must be a witch. And no one gets to tell you what exactly being a witch is. I assume if you’ve found this Hollow and read enough, you already assumed you were in the Den of one.
I’m looking forward to experiencing the Halloween season with you all!
